The Covid-19 pandemic casts a long shadow. The British Academy lists nine areas of long-term societal impact, and in at number 5 is ‘worsened health outcomes and growing health inequalities’. Most of us might wish to consign the pandemic to memory, but the Academy’s report, ‘The Covid-19 Decade’, is a reminder that its repercussions will live with us for years to come, and possibly longer than 10, it warns ominously. The sooner we begin to understand and confront the lasting issues of Covid-19, the better place we will be to address them.
