Scotland-based TÜV SÜD National Engineering Laboratory will built the world’s first national standard liquid/dense phase carbon dioxide (CO2) calibration facility after having received £950k ($1.2m) funding from Horizon Europe, the EU’s funding programme for research and innovation.
The new facility aims to calibrate flow measurement and sampling meters using CO2-rich mixtures to traceable national standards.
Forming part of the EU’s ENCASE project, the new facility will support EU targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 55% by 2030 and achieve Net Zero by 2050.
Commenting on the project, Gabriele Chinello, Head of carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) at TÜV SÜD National Engineering Laboratory, said, “I’m looking forward to seeing the impact that this research will have on the measurement and monitoring of CO2 for CCUS.”
