The global community is mobilising support to Turkey and Syria after the death toll from Monday’s devastating earthquake passed 20,000, amid escalating appeals for more funding and humanitarian support to avoid a secondary disaster.
A first cargo plane bound for the Turkey, through Istanbul, departed from Dubai’s Al Maktoum International Airport yesterday, transporting 37 tonnes of medical kits, according to the International Humanitarian City (IHC).
Additionally, IHC is facilitating another relief flight to Syria to support international humanitarian agencies in delivering additional tonnes of crucial aid, which includes medicines, and other essential supplies.
Direct Relief is preparing more than 25 pallets of medical supplies from its facilities in the US and Europe for Turkey and Syria. India’s National Disaster Response Force and army’s medical team have sent oxygen cylinders, along with other medical equipment.
