Works are well underway at Woodfibre LNG’s 2.1 million tonnes per annum liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility in Squamish, British Columbia.
The Canadian energy supplier has begun concrete pouring for piperack foundations in addition to blasting the project site slopeside/rock wall for the installation of the future permanent export terminal.
Confirmed in a recent company update, the works make the project one step closer to realisation. It is hoped that the site will begin operations in 2027.
Prior to being acquired for a LNG export terminal, the site was used as a pulp and paper operation, which closed in 2006. The site is also a historic village used by the Squamish Nation for seasonal fishing, known by its traditional name of Swiy̓át.
