Global energy company Woodside has signed a deal to acquire OCI Global’s clean ammonia project in Beaumount, Texas, for $2.35bn.
Announced today (5th August), the acquisition will position Woodside in the growing lower carbon ammonia market and supports its existing strategy to thrive through the energy transition.
Currently under construction, the project hopes to produce its first ammonia in 2025 and lower carbon ammonia from 2026. The first phase is designed to have a capacity of 1.1 million tonnes per annum.
To achieve this, OCI has combined its ammonia production, storage and transportation infrastructure with Linde’s low CI hydrogen production and carbon capture technology.
