Westfalen Group has signed a deal to supply an electrolyser to ArcelorMittal’s steelwork site in Florange, France, in support of hydrogen-based steelmaking.
In a recent announcement, Westfalen said it hopes to have the electrolyser in operation by 2026. The electrolyser will be built directly on the site of the steel processing facility.
The supply contract between Westfalen and ArcelorMittal is expected to run until the 2040s.
Westfalen’s French subsidiary has been supplying hydrogen to ArcelorMittal since 2010, using a natural gas-based technology. However, this latest deal offers a step-up, offering technology that will produce hydrogen in a more environmentally friendly manner.
