gasworld has been warned about an expected ‘painful’ carbon dioxide (CO2) shortage in the US this summer and autumn, with several extended plant closures on the cards.
Speaking on gasworld’s upcoming In Conversation With… TOMCO Systems webinar, Jeff Holyoak, Vice-President of Sales and Market Development for the Georgia-based company, said planned maintenance shutdowns could be longer than in previous years.
“Last year (2023), was a pretty calm year for the supply of CO2, but we’re starting to see some cracks in that armour again in 2024,” he said, adding that he expected the disruption to be felt in the third and fourth quarters of the year.
