US DOE makes $54.4m carbon management funding announcement

The US Department of Energy’s (DOE) has announced a further $54.4m in funding to advance carbon management technologies to help address technical challenges and reduce costs.

Made through the DOE’s Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management (FECM), the funding has been described as critical in achieving the Biden-Harris Administration’s Net Zero target by 2050.

Six different carbon management technologies will benefit from the funding opportunity. These range from carbon capture system at hydrogen production facilities using coal, mixed coal/biomass to carbon capture technologies for natural gas combined cycle power plants.

Brad Crabtree, Assistant Secretary of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management, said that reaching the nation’s climate goals requires a significant scale-up of carbon management projects and infrastructure.
