Unitel Technologies, Inc., a US-based process technology innovator, has been contracted to supply its technology and engineering expertise for the construction and operation of an on-site methanol reformer in Southeast Asia.
The Unitel M2H production system generates up to 1,000 Nm3 of hydrogen (H2) per hour. It is understood that the balance of H2 will be used for other applications in industries such as electronics, steel, food, chemicals, pharmaceuticals and glass.
In addition to selective supply chain advantages, lower capital and operating costs are the most visible benefits
The heart of the M2H 1,000 process consists of an oil-heated multi-tube methanol reformer. A controlled mixture of methanol and demineralised water is pumped into the top of the reformer with the H2-rich synthesis gas then fed into a multi-column pressure swing adsorption (PSA) unit to yield 99.99% pure H2.
Serge Randhava, CEO of the Illinois-based business, stated, “Unitel’s M2H 1,000 represents a significant departure from the conventional natural gas reforming process. In addition to selective supply chain advantages, lower capital and operating costs are the most visible benefits.”
