Uniper starts BioLNG production at Rotterdam terminal

Multinational energy company Uniper has started using the BioLNG production capacity at the gate terminal in Rotterdam to convert biomethane into BioLNG.

Uniper is believed to be the first shipping company to do this and says the decision marks another step in developing a fully integrated biomethane-BioLNG supply chain.

BioLNG produced at the gate terminal will be certified under the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) scheme.

Carsten Poppinga, Chief Commercial Officer of Uniper, described BioLNG as one of the most important zero-carbon fuels for the decarbonisation of the marine and truck sectors.
