Participants in the HyNet project from across the North West of England and North Wales have welcomed the UK Government’s pledged investment worth £20 billion which aims to decarbonise industry.
Composed of several different elements, the HyNet project aims to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) emitted across North West England and North Wales by a quarter starting in the mid-2020’s.
Starting from 2024, HyNet will enable the decarbonisation of hard-to-abate sectors such as cement, refining, chemicals, glass manufacturing and Energy from Waste.
Announced last week, the UK Government stated that the next budget will include a £20 billion ($24 billion) investment programme for carbon capture projects, marking the single largest investment in the technology outside of the US, with £1 billion planned for deployment every year.
