Earlier this year it was announced by the UK Government that nitrous oxide (N2O) – also known as laughing gas – was to be banned for consumers under new plans which aim to take a ‘zero tolerance’ approach on tackling anti-social behaviour associated with abuse of the gas.
The new law will make retail sale and possession of the gas a criminal offence for the first time, a move that has proven to be controversial among those involved with industrial use of N2O.
To help the government determine legitimate uses and appropriate controls of the gas, it has launched a consultation aimed at organisations or individuals that manufacture, sell or use N2O as part of their business.
