Announced today, 9th February, the UK government has laid out its plans to release a globally recognised low carbon hydrogen certification scheme, a move that could help cement the UK’s place as a leader on the international green energy market.
Designed to verify sustainability of low carbon hydrogen, the new scheme is hoped to build transparency and confidence across an industry that is expected to play a key role in the UK’s greener energy future.
With no existing globally recognised way for producers of low carbon hydrogen to prove the credentials of their product, it will help verify sustainability claims while also aiding in the promotion of cross-border trade and the stimulation of growth and jobs in green hydrogen.
According to Graham Stuart, Minister at the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, the new scheme will allow investors and producers the opportunity to confidently identify and invest in ‘trusted, high-quality’ British sources of low carbon hydrogen.
