Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) wants to replace natural gas with hydrogen and hydrogen-blended fuels for combustion in its GE Gas Power turbines.
A move which will support the UAE’s decarbonisation targets, the introduction of hydrogen for the turbines will provide firm power on demand and supply reliable energy required to support EGA’s operations and growth.
Carbon capture and storage (CCS) solutions will also be explored as part of the effort, with EGA and GE Gas Power Europe having inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Sunday (Nov 28) for the conversion.
EGA currently has 33 natural gas turbines, with a total power generation capacity of 5,200MW, that could each be decarbonised with the hydrogen and CCS solutions.
