Egypt and Morocco have been among the MENA front-runners when it comes to hydrogen development – but now Tunisia is entering the race.
This week has seen the curtain lifted on a major new green hydrogen project, H2 Notos, which is targeting up to 200,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually that would be exported to central Europe via pipelines.
The project is the brainchild of TE H2, a joint venture between TotalEnergies and EREN Groupe (80/20), together with VERBUND, the Austrian electricity company, who have signed an MOU with the Republic of Tunisia.
Potentially it could scale up to 1 million tonnes. The project will access the European market through the SoutH2 Corridor, a project connecting North Africa to Italy, Austria, and Germany, which is expected to be commissioned around 2030.
