French energy firm Total Energies’ will power its Leuna refinery with green hydrogen supplied by VNG.
A newly signed deal between the two companies will see VNG initiate the future supply of green hydrogen produced renewable electricity with a 30MW electrolyser in Bad Lauchstädt.
The agreement is aligned with TotalEnergies’ goal to decarbonise the oil refinery by reducing its annual CO2 emissions by up to 80,000 tonnes by 2030.
Jean-Marc Durand, Senior Vice-President of TotalEnergies Refining Base Chemicals Europe, adds that the project is also fully in line with TotalEnergies’ ambition to decarbonise all hydrogen used in its European refineries by 2023.
