French energy multinational TotalEnergies is launching a call for tenders for the supply of 500,000 tonnes per year of green hydrogen as part of a drive to decarbonise its European refineries.
By replacing fossil-based fuels with green hydrogen, the company states that it should avoid the emission of around five million tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) each year from the company’s European refineries by 2030.
The company’s decarbonisation drive will see it replacing 500,000 tonnes per year of hydrogen consumed at six of its European refineries with renewable-produced green hydrogen by 2030.
According to the company, this aligns with its objective of reducing the net greenhouse gas emissions directly linked to its oil and gas operations by 40% by 2030 compared to 2015 levels.
