Denmark-based company Topsoe has agreed to supply technology that will enable the production of renewable fuels at an oil refinery located in Hamburg, Germany.
According to a supply agreement signed by both parties, Topsoe will deliver its HydroFlex technology to refinery operator Holborn at a new renewable fuels complex to be housed within the refinery.
Expected to begin operations in early 2027, the facility aims to produce 220,000 tonnes of renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) per year.
The production aims to meet the surging demand for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). According to the International Energy Agency’s Net Zero Scenario, SAF must account for over 10% of aviation fuel by 2030 to achieve Net Zero CO2 emissions by 2050.
