Toshiba Corporation’s energy supply system has been chosen by Tohoku Electric Power Co. to support a two-year power management study in which it will evaluate hydrogen (H2) in overcoming fluctuations from renewable sources.
Under the terms of the deal, of which financial details were not disclosed, Tohoku Electric will use Toshiba’s H2OneTM H2-based autonomous energy supply system in its study.
The independent instrument features a highly efficient cogeneration system based on Toshiba’s unique H2 energy management system (EMS) and uses renewable energy and H2 to stably supply electricity. It consists of a solar power generation system, storage battery, H2 production equipment, H2 storage alloy tank and a pure H2 fuel cell.
Over the course of the two-year project, Tohoku Electric will monitor the viability of the H2 power storage system as a solution for offsetting power output fluctuations caused by an expansion of renewables.
