Taking place over the next two days (15th-16th June), the World Biogas Summit 2022 represents a gathering of leading international figures for a discussion around anaerobic digestion (AD) and biogas as a viable solution to decarbonising sectors such as farming and transport, increasing food and energy security, and being a low-carbon and dispatchable alternative to more unreliable methods of renewable energy generation such as wind and solar.
Introducing the event, Charlotte Morton, Chief Executive of event hosts the World Biogas Association (WBA), reminded attendees of the importance of decarbonising industries and the ability for AD and biogas to not only replace fossil fuels, but also to reduce reliance on Russian gas.
‘Even before Russia’s murderous invasion of Ukraine, we were being warned of an impending food crisis arising as a result of rising energy prices,” stated Morton.
“It doesn’t make sense to sustain this business model, so we should heed the warnings of another crisis, the soil crisis.”
