Texas LNG Brownsville secures another offtake deal; advancing towards FID

Texas LNG Brownsville, a subsidiary of Glenfarne Energy Transition, has signed a new Heads of Agreement, securing offtake commitments sufficient for the project to advance to a final investment decision (FID).

Based in the Port of Brownsville, Texas LNG is a proposed four million tonnes per annum liquefied natural gas (LNG) export terminal. The project developers are targeting a start-up date of 2028.

The most recent deal is a long-term LNG sales and purchase agreement, which has been signed with an investment-grade global LNG player, which has not been disclosed.

Texas LNG’s announcement adds to existing agreements with EQT Corporation, Gunvor Group, and Macquarie Group.

Brendan Duval, CEO and founder of Glenfarne Energy Transition and Co-President of Texas LNG, said, “Our strong and diversified customer base, which fortifies Texas LNG’s FID finance-ability, now includes the largest producer of natural gas in the US, a leading global financial institution, one of the largest independent commodities traders, and a major global LNG player.”

Texas LNG will be powered by renewable energy driving the facility’s electric motors. It’s “green by design” approach is expected to make it one of the world’s lowest emitting liquefaction facilities globally.

Glenfarne Energy Transition is the developer, owner, and operator of energy transition infrastructure and the majority owner and managing member of Texas LNG. A joint venture between Technip Energies USA and Samsung Engineering is leading the delivery of the facility.

The Glenfarne Energy Transition LNG portfolio also includes the 8.8 million tonnes per annuum Magnolia LNG export facility under development in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
