With world attention on Gaza, Syria’s plight has slipped from the Middle East spotlight.
Yet while fighting has mainly stopped, its health infrastructure remains precarious. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), as of September 2023, less than 50% of health facilities in Syria – along with other low- and middle-income countries – had uninterrupted access to medical oxygen.
However, progress is now being made.
