When designing hydrogen fluid systems, it is crucial to avoid carrying over outdated methods from the oil and gas industry, says Ana Dominguez, Engineering Services Supervisor at Swagelok.
Dominguez was speaking on gasworld’s 1895 Podcast, highlighting the unique challenges in hydrogen system design compared to traditional oil and gas systems.
“The first main difference between the oil and gas market and the hydrogen industry is that the size of the molecule you’re working with is very different,” she explained.
Hydrogen is very small, the smallest molecule in nature,” she said. “What does this mean? It means that the appropriate sealing technologies must be carefully selected to prevent a hydrogen leak.”
