Cryogenic pump specialist Svanehøj has won a contract to supply deepwell ammonia fuel pumps for eight bulk carriers owned by a maritime shipping and logistics company, with deliveries set to begin later this year.
The pumps delivered under the deal are fully compatible with liquefied gas fuels, such as liquefied natural gas (LNG), methanol, and ammonia. In this case, they will be used on ammonia-powered vessels.
Believed to be the first commercial vessels of their size powered by ammonia, the carriers will also be equipped with a traditional diesel oil system and a clean fuel system.
Earlier this year (January 2024), Svanehøj was acquired by Connecticut-based manufacturing company ITT for around €395m.
