0

Yesterday, Foster Wheeler AG announced a contract to design and supply site advisory services for two sets of solar steam generators as well as both low and high pressure feedwater heaters.
The contract was awarded by the project’s EPC contractor, a joint venture created by the Spanish companies SENER and COBRA.
Eric Svendsen, CEO of Foster Wheeler Energia, S.L. in Madrid, reflected, $quot; This award is a decisive step forward for Foster Wheeler’s strategy regarding solar thermal technology. It reflects our client’s confidence in the excellent performance of Foster Wheeler and also confirms the high quality standards and features of our design for the demanding heat exchanger equipment required by solar thermal power plants that utilize molten salts and oil as thermal heat transfer fluids.”
Equipment will be installed in the Valle 1 & Valle 2 Solar Thermal Power Plants, located in San José del Valle, Spain. The facilities, owned by Torresol Energy, will produce individual installed power capacities of 50 MWe.
Foster Wheeler has received complete notice to proceed on the contract. The contract value was incorporated in Foster Wheeler’s first quarter 2010 results, while the terms of the agreement remain undisclosed. Equipment delivery is scheduled to commence during the first quarter of 2011.
Using SENER’s concentrated parabolic trough technology (SENERtrough) the plants will offer up to seven hours of plant operation without sun radiation. Facilities are anticipated to operate for approximately 3,500 hours annually, which equates to a potential CO2 emission reduction of 95,000 tonnes per year.
