The Belgian pharmaceutical, chemicals and plastics manufacturer, Solvay has announced plans to build a new hydrogen fluoride installation in China.
Solvay has entered into the agreement in partnership with Sinochem Lantian, a subsidiary of the Sinochem Group. The joint venture has been undertaken on behalf of Lansol Fluorchem Co Ltd. and production is expected to commence by the end of the year.
Within the agreement, electronic grade hydrogen fluoride will be available for sale using a dedicated Electronic Wet Chemicals Company. Solvay has also committed to providing Lansol with the technology needed to produce the high-value electronic grades. These gases are used extensively in the electronics industry, particularly during the production of photovoltaic cells. Deputy General Manager of Sinochem Lantain Group, Shuiyao Wang, remarked, “Electronic hydrogen fluoride is considered a high-end product for which China’s requirements are met largely by imports today. The co-operation with Solvay enables China’s fluorine industry to acquire this technology in short time, and makes it possible for meeting enormous demand generated by the rapid growth of China’s high-tech industries.”
Meanwhile, Eric Mignonat, General Manager of the Strategic Business Unit Peroxides of Solvay, commented, “The new contracts with our Chinese partner offer Solvay the possibility to expand and upgrade its presence as a technology leader in the growing Chinese market for ultra pure wet chemicals.”
Mignonat continued, “Solvay demonstrates by these important developments in China how it continues to advance its strategy of geographical expansion into high end markets with a strong growth potential in China and the neighboroughing countries.”
Olivier du Ray, Country Manager of Greater China at Solvay, responded, “The contracts will consolidate the strategic co-operation between Sinochem Lantian and Solvay and strengthen the basis for future joint projects. They are also aligned with Sinochem Lantian’s strategy for the development of its fluorine chemical business.”
Lansol Fluorochem Co, Ltd. Constitutes a 70% – 30% venture between the Chinese fluorochemicals producer, Zhejiang Lantian Environmental Protection Co., Ltd and Solvay. The partnership, based in Quzhou Zhejiang, serves the Chinese market and also has a significant exporter presence.
