The Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) has called on the US and Chinese Governments to ease tensions and restrictions related to the semiconductor market that may hinder the chip industry.
In a statement, the association notes that leaders in Washington took a bold and historic action last year (2022) to enact the CHIPS and Science Act to strengthen the industry’s global competitiveness and de-risk supply chains.
Signed into law in August (2022), the Act set out with a goal to place the US as a forerunner in the semiconductor market, competing with the likes of China and Korea, and revitalise domestic manufacturing.
That said, SIA notes that allowing the industry to have continued access to the China market, the world’s largest commercial market for commodity semiconductors, is important to avoid undermining the positive impact of the effort.
