Leading industries including energy could quadruple their carbon dioxide (CO2) savings through better use of space technologies and satellite communications could save as much as 8.8GT of CO2 every year, according to a new report from Inmarsat and Globant.
Satellite technologies are already reducing carbon emissions by 1.5bn GT every year, according to independent research report Can Space Help Save The Planet?, commissioned by Inmarsat from leading consultants at Globant’s Sustainable Business Studio – but more could be achieved.
The report focused transport and logistics, agriculture, forestry and other land use, and energy, which account for 60% of global emissions.
