Russian oil major Rosneft has declared that it has decided to build three compressor stations in the Yamal Peninsula, for the transformation of surplus gas into LNG and as a means of implementing significant emission reductions from burning of the gas from the Yamal oil production.
According to Rosneft Head Sergey Bogdanchikov, the company has invested €16.7m in the first part of the project, and its stated task is to cut the burning of surplus gas.
The compressor stations will be built for the Komsomolskoe, Kharampurskoe and Tarasovskoe fields and it is estimated that by 2011, approximately 95% of the surplus gas will be transformed into LNG. The LNG will then be applied either by power stations, industry or pipelined back to the ground, according to Bogdanchikov.
