Royal Helium grows sales from Steveville helium plant

Royal Helium has confirmed that helium sales from its Steveville helium purification plant in Alberta are successfully underway.

The Canadian helium exploration and production company recently completed its 12th and 13th helium trailer sales from the plant, which started up in November 2023.

Andrew Davidson, CEO of Royal Helium, said, “We are pleased to have the Steveville helium purification plant running at a stable production rate and seeing the entire team getting the plant to its final stage of ramping up to capacity with world -class oversight by PTT.”

He continued, “The plant is designed to be fully automated and self-powered such that once in a steady state, the operation can quickly turn towards positive cash flow with a very low operating expense.”

Royal Helium’s Steveville plant has been engineered to process 15,000 mcf/day of raw gas fed by two of the company’s helium wells. With this, the facility has an output capacity of around 22,000 mcf of 99.9999% helium per year.

The plant will benefit from carbon credits generated under the Technology Innovation and Emissions Reduction System in Alberta.  As these carbon credits are monetised, they can provide Royal Helium with a material additional cash flow stream.

The engineered life of the plant is 25 years, while both wells are expected to remain on stream for a minimum of nine years. The plant will also produce enough fuel gas to power the plant, which can produce up to 22 million pounds of commercial carbon dioxide.

Last week, Royal Helium said that it has engaged technical and operations consultancy Progress Through Technology (PTT) in a six-month contract to drive efforts to ramp up, fine tube, and stabilise production at the Steveville helium purification plant.
