Royal Helium engages PTT to boost Steveville plant’s helium output

Canadian helium exploration and production company Royal Helium is driving its efforts to ramp up, fine tube, and stabilise production at the Steveville helium purification plant located near Brooks, Alberta.

The company said today (17th June) that it has engaged technical and operations consultancy Progress Through Technology (PTT) in a six-month contract to drive the work.

PTT is headed by Bent Ziegler, who has over 20 years of gas processing and industrial gas experience in technical roles with industry companies.

Andrew Davidson, CEO of Royal Helium, said, “We are pleased to have Brent and PTT officially engaged to oversee the advancement towards this pivotal milestone in the development of the Steveville helium project.”

Royal Helium’s Steveville plant has been engineered to process 15,000 mcf/day of raw gas fed by two of the company’s helium wells. With this, the facility has an output capacity of around 22,000 mcf of 99.9999% helium per year.

The plant will benefit from carbon credits generated under the Technology Innovation and Emissions Reduction System in Alberta.  As these carbon credits are monetised, they can provide Royal Helium with a material additional cash flow stream.

The engineered life of the plant is 25 years, while both wells are expected to remain on stream for a minimum of nine years. The plant will also produce enough fuel gas to power the plant, which can produce up to 22 million pounds of commercial carbon dioxide.

Earlier this year, Royal Helium unveiled its 2024 development plans, with its CEO saying that the company will have multiple facilities operational in the short term.

Royal Helium’s plans will be centred on completing and testing existing wells in the Val Marie, Ogema, and Steveville properties and drilling on the Forty Mile project.
