Carbon fibre cylinders have been known for a long time in our sector. They were mostly used for self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) where operators must carry the weight of the cylinder themselves and, at the same time, perform physical work or carry heavy equipment.
In this context, the price of the cylinder is secondary.
Carbon fibre cylinder technology is also being used for compressed gas transportation in bulk, with groups of big-diameter, long cylinders, for helium, hydrogen and compressed natural gas CNG transportation. In this field, the truck may carry twice the quantity of product in a single trip, the highest investment in cylinders is balanced out by the transportation savings, making the use of this technology economically viable. Up until now the industrial sector had not found a space for these cylinders, undoubtedly due to the price and in spite of its obvious advantages.
