Rex International Holding has entered into a Joint Study Agreement with the co-founders of Helios Aragon to explore natural hydrogen in Oman.
Helios Aragon operates the Monzon Natural Hydrogen Project in Spain, the first such development in Europe, and exploration activities by the Helios group of companies are underway in Poland and UK.
John d’Abo, Executive Chairman of Rex, said it has been operating in the Sultanate for more than a decade. He said the joint study will enable it to evaluate if synergies can be reaped.
Ian Munro, CEO of Helios Aragon, said Oman is widely regarded as one of the more prospective countries for the near-term discovery of commercial quantities of natural hydrogen.
“The geology is considered optimal for large-scale hydrogen generation, which is evidenced by multiple surface seeps, some of which are almost pure hydrogen.”
He said it plans to leverage exploration findings from Europe along with Rex’ operational expertise to develop a thorough understanding of Oman’s natural hydrogen potential.
“The goal is to produce the cleanest and lowest cost hydrogen, which can enhance energy security and support the transition to a lower carbon future,” he said.
