‘Reduce or stop’ gas usage in Gladstone after pipeline leak

Major industrial users in Australia’s Gladstone region are being urged to reduce or cease gas usage following a major fire and leak to the Queensland Gas Pipeline (QGP).

The connection would normally deliver about 145 TJ per day.

The 627km-long QGP is a transmission pipeline located in central Queensland, linking Wallumbilla gas hub to large industrial gas users in Gladstone and Rockhampton.

It also supplies gas to distribution networks in the Wide Bay area. Natural gas and coal seam gas enters Wallumbilla and at various receipt points located near gas fields along the route. The main pipeline was built in 1989 and commissioned a year later.
