Realising small and large scale potential of biogas

Their presentations marked the start and end of the first day of the World Biogas Expo and Summit 2024 at Birmingham NEC, and on the face of it, there wasn’t much to link breakthrough design and engineering business Biofactory with multinational giant Shell.

But in their separate ways, each underlined the important role that biogas and biomethane projects are playing in the energy transition, under the overarching Making Biogas Happen (#MBH) theme.

Fortified by bacon rolls at the Farmers Breakfast, delegates heard ADBA Chairman Chris Huhne pose the key question as whether the future for the agricultural sector lies in small or large developments. The answer came early on day 2: large scale plants are more proven commercially while small scale ones are technically less established.
