QatarEnergy signs 20-year helium supply deal with G-gas for China

QatarEnergy and Guangzhou Guanggang Gases & Energy Co. Ltd (G-gas) has signed a sales and purchase agreement for the supply of 100 million cubic feet per annum.

Under terms of the signed deal signed today (25th Feb), QatarEnergy will supply China with helium from its Ras Laffan helium facility for a 20-year period.

Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, Minister of State for Energy Affairs, and the President and CEO of QatarEnergy, welcomed the signing.

“China is a major market and destination for Qatari helium, and we are very pleased to enter into this direct long-term partnership with G-gas as we help meet the growing demand for helium both in China and across the globe.”

QatarEnergy’s Ras Laffan helium facility is made up of multiple plants and will contribute to around 25% of the global helium supply once fully developed.

The LNG’s helium has six-nines purity – 99.9999% – making it suitable for specialist helium applications.

Al-Kaabi, added, “Qatar is one of the world’s largest helium exporters and this agreement further expands QatarEnergy’s growing list of partnerships and customers around the globe.

“Our helium capacity will more than double with our North Field LNG expansion projects. This will further support a wide range of sectors and industries that depend on helium to drive human development.”
