QatarEnergy has officially firmed up time-charter party (TCP) agreements with Qatar Gas Transport Company Limited (Nakilat) for the operation of 25 conventional-size LNG vessels as part of the second ship-owner tender under QatarEnergy’s LNG Fleet Expansion Programme.
The majority of vessels (17) are being constructed at the Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) shipyards in South Korea, while the remaining eight are being built at Hanwha Ocean (formerly Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering) also in South Korea.
In a signing ceremony in Doha, HE Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, Minister of State for Energy Affairs, and President and CEO of QatarEnergy, said the agreements follow on from the announcement last month that Nakilat will own and operate the vessels.
He added the agreements play an important role in implementing QatarEnergy’s LNG shipping programme, as it targets increasing LNG production capacity to 142 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) by 2030, a near 85% increase on current production levels (click here).
