QatarEnergy inaugurates four LNG vessels

QatarEnergy recently inaugurated four conventional-size LNG vessels built in the Samsung Heavy Industries Shipyard and Hanwha Ocean Shipyard in the Republic of Korea.

The four new vessels, Id’asah,  Nuaijah, Umm Swayyah and  Lebrethah, are part of 128 ordered from Korean and Chinese shipyards as part of the largest shipbuilding programme in the history of the LNG shipping industry. Their naming took place in two separate ceremonies in the city of Geoje.

H.E. Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, Minister of State for Energy Affairs, and the President and CEO of QatarEnergy, said the occasion highlighted the growth of QatarEnergy’s strategic partnership with Samsung Heavy Industries and shipowner JP Morgan Asset Management’s Global Transportation Group.

“This event is not only a milestone in our journey, but also a celebration of our partnership and joint commitment to deliver cleaner energy to the world,” he said.

The new ships are equipped with modern technologies to achieve optimal fuel efficiency and reduce emissions.

QatarEnergy has entered into an agreement with Chevron to acquire a 23% working interest in the concession agreement for the North El-Dabaa (H4) Block, in the Mediterranean Sea offshore Egypt (Chevron retains a 40% stake).

The other partners on the block are Woodside (27%) and Tharwa Petroleum Company, an Egyptian state company (10%).
