Japanese industrial product manufacturer Marubeni has entered an agreement with Indonesian energy firm PT Pertamina (Pertamina) to collaborate on decarbonisation projects in Indonesia.
As countries across the globe become increasingly concerned with lowering carbon emissions, an increasing number of companies are adopting sustainable solutions such as carbon capture, utilisation, and storage (CCUS) technology.
Through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), Marubeni and PT Pertamina will work together to jointly develop various decarbonisation projections, including a bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS) project at Marubeni’s pulp mill in Indonesia.
The partnership will contribute to carbon reduction targets set by both companies, including Pertamina’s contribution to the Indonesian government’s 2060 carbon neutrality target and Marubeni’s ‘Long-Term Vision on Climate Change’, which attempts to enhance its existing climate change strategy using CCUS.
