Californian quantum computing firm PsiQuantum has opened a UK-based advanced research and development (R&D) site to develop the ‘next generation’ of high-power cryogenic modules to scale photonic quantum computers to millions of qubits.
Backed by £9m ($10.7) of funding from the UK Government’s Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT), PsiQuantum has teamed up with STFC’s Daresbury Laboratory to develop the quantum computing subsystems.
It is thought the systems will have the highest cryogenic cooling power deployed to date.
Along with opening the new site at STFC’s Daresbury Laboratory, PsiQuantum has also gained access to one of Europe’s largest liquid helium cryogenic plants to support its research.
