Praxair India Private Limited has won a contract to supply gaseous oxygen and nitrogen to India’s largest wire and wire-rope manufacturer, Usha Martin Limited.
Asit Gangopadhyay, Managing Director of Praxair India, expressed his firm’s ‘pride’ at the recent agreement. He commented, “Praxair has been serving the global iron and steel industry for over 70 years and has been associated with India’s steel growth for the last 15 years. Usha Martin is a leading speciality steel manufacturer in India and we are immensely proud to be chosen as a partner in their expansion plans.”
Praxair India has enjoyed associations with Usha Martin’s Jamshedpur steel mill since 200, where it currently operates two oxygen plants with a combined 220 tpd capacity. Augmenting this relationship, Praxair India will build a new cryogenic air separation unit to supply 130 tpd of gaseous oxygen and 65 tpd of nitrogen. In doing so it will enable Usha Martin’s forthcoming capacity expansions. The new unit is scheduled to be operational in the first half of 2012.
In response to the deal, Dr Vijay Sharma, Director and CEO of Usha Martin Limited said, “To support our expansion plans we need technically strong and reliable partners. We are highly satisfied with Praxair’s services over the years and are confident that Praxair, with its global expertise in industrial gases, will meet our requirements efficiently.”
