As the holiday season approaches, gasworld caught up with David Kempe, Co-founder and Commercial Director of O2Africa, for our Festive Fireside Chats series. Reflecting on 2024, Kempe shared the company’s strides in transforming oxygen and nitrogen supply across Africa, its innovative business model, and plans for 2025.
For O2Africa, 2024 has been a year of exponential growth and meaningful achievements. Despite being only in its second financial year, the company is on track to quadruple its revenue by the time its fiscal year concludes in February. Kempe described this milestone as both challenging and rewarding, noting, “We are a profit based organisation. As one of the only two or three manufacturers in Africa on the ground, it really makes it exciting because it puts us in a position for the new year to really reinvest in the business as well as our products and then start to create further employment within our country that really needs it.”
A major development for the company is its upcoming move to a larger facility in February 2025. “It’s quite a large office space, which really allows us to reinvest in the products and services that we offer going forward,” Kempe explained. The relocation underscores O2Africa’s long-term vision of scaling operations while fostering economic opportunities in South Africa.
Reflecting on their position in the market, David highlighted the company’s ambitious trajectory, stating,“We’ve got an opportunity to be the largest manufacturer of PSA on the continent quite quickly.”
