North American Helium has started up its seventh helium purification facility at Cadillac, near Ponteix, Saskatchewan.
The site will have an initial helium production capacity of 22 million cubic feet per year (MMcf/yr), with further expansion planned for 2024 because of continued drilling success.
Start-up of the facility is approximately one month ahead of management’s estimate.
Nicholas Snyder, Chairman and CEO of North American Helium, described the plant as “critical” given the struggles with a worsening supply/demand outlook due to continued onshoring of semiconductor manufacturing and expanding space exploration programmes increasing demand for helium, while supply from legacy sources continues to decline.
