A new alliance between New York State and Japan is set to enhance international collaboration and strengthen semiconductor industry clusters for a more resilient global semiconductor ecosystem.
Specifically, the partnership hopes to strengthen links between NY CREATES Albany NanoTech Complex, the largest non-profit semiconductor R&D facility in North America, and Rapidus, a Japanese semiconductor firm under construction in Chitose.
New York’s Governor Hochul launched NY CREATES Albany NanoTech Complex in December 2023 as part of a $10bn partnership with companies such as IBM, Micron, Applied Materials, Tokyo Electron, among others.
Across the pond, Rapidus, once established, will produce two-nanometer chips.
