A new $3.24bn low-carbon methanol manufacturing plant is to be built at the Port of Lake Charles in Southwest Louisiana, US.
Announced by Lake Charles Methanol, the facility will use advanced auto thermal gas reforming technology as well as carbon capture and storage (CCS) to produce low-carbon hydrogen which will be converted into so-called blue methanol.
By reforming natural gas and renewable gas feedstocks into hydrogen, the company estimates it could produce about 3.6m tonnes of methanol per year.
