New era for hydrogen economy in Canada

A new document detailing the requirements of different hydrogen installations has signalled the dawn of a rapid new era of advancement for the Hydrogen Economy in Canada.

The Canadian Hydrogen Installation Code or CHIC, has been published by the Bureau de normalisation du Quebec as a National Standard of Canada and will provide safety guidelines and requirements for the smoother approval process of hydrogen installations across the country.

Until recently, hydrogen installations could only be implemented following a tedious process of approval by the competent authority under an exemption procedure. This new development is likely to pave the way for a much quicker and greater use of hydrogen as an energy carrier.

$quot;Working together with stakeholders, we can help make hydrogen the fuel of the future$quot; commented Randy Dey, of The CCS Global Group and chair of the technical committee that developed the new document.
Gary Lunn, minister of Natural Resources Canada, seems to share this optimism, $quot;This new code will further facilitate the commercialization of hydrogen and fuel-cell technologies as well as help build consumer confidence in the use of hydrogen as a clean, safe source of energy.$quot;
