Nel Hydrogen (Nel) has chosen Plymouth Charter Township, a suburb of Detroit, Michigan, in the US, as the location for its next electrode manufacturing Gigafactory.
Equipped with a total annual capacity of 4 gigawatts (GW) Alkaline and PEM technology, the factory will be among the world’s largest such facilities, according to Nel.
To be propped up by a $10m Michigan Business Develop grant from the Michigan Strategic Fund (MSF), the project will also be supported by a 15-year, 100% State Essential Services Assessment (SESA) Exemption Request valued at up to $6.25m.
Having secured more than $50m in financial aid for the Michigan site, Nel could see this increase to around $150m, pending approval of additional state and federal applications.
