Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) has signed a licensing agreement with Italian engineering company Saipem S.P.A.
Under the agreement, Saipem will provide MHI’s proprietary technologies for use in CO2 capture plants. The technologies involved were developed jointly by MHS and The Kansai Electric Power Co., Inc.
Saipem is one of Italy’s major engineering companies and has enjoyed a long-time cooperative relationship with MHI involving the use of Saipem’s Urea technology in large fertiliser plants.
The collaboration in CO2 capture plants will allow both companies to exploit their respective fields of expertise. Saipem will be able to exploit the rapidly expanding market for CCUS in Europe and the Middle East, the company’s main target market.
