Mitsubishi Gas Chemical Company, lnc. (MGC) says that the majority of its employees are safe in the wake of the earthquake in eastern Japan, although it continues to seek information about some who are missing.
MGC subsidiary Electrotechno Co., Ltd. (Nishishirakawa-gun, Fukushima) and the MGC Kashima Plant (Kamisu City, Ibaraki) have shut down due to partial damage to equipment and buildings. Full details are not yet available.
Japan’s rolling power blackout programme and logistics disruption may affect future MGC operations, including operations at sites that are unaffected at present, the company said in a press release.
MGC declined to estimate the losses from the earthquake and rolling blackout program. “MGC will disclose relevant information in a timely fashion as the situation develops,” the company stated.
