To celebrate its 100th anniversary of oxygen production this year, Messer Schweiz AG held an open day in May for the first time in its long history, giving the public the opportunity to see what Messer is all about.
The history of Messer Schweiz AG, formerly Sauerstoffwerk Lenzburg AG, actually dates back to 1891, around 120 years ago. One hundred years ago, in 1911, the private owners invested in an air separation unit (ASU) and started with the production of oxygen and cylinder filling.
Already at an early stage, the management pursued an ecological policy by running its own hydroelectric power plant. To this day, Messer Schweiz still generates two thirds of its own power requirements itself by means of a turbine driven by water from the near river.
Over the course of time, the building and production facilities have been repeatedly expanded and adapted to meet necessary requirements.
